The victories of the Liberal Party’s candidates in the Greater Toronto Area were among the main reasons for the party’s win in the 2019 Canadian federal election.

Among the newly elected MPs, there is a number of incumbents from the ridings which are among the most heavily populated by Ukrainian Canadians in the country: Yvan Baker (Etobicoke Centre, 52% of the vote), Kirsty Duncan (Etobicoke North, 61%), James Maloney (Etobicoke-Lakeshore, 52%), Arif Virani (Parkdale-High Park, 47%), Julie Dzerowicz (Davenport, 44%), Peter Fonseca (Mississauga East-Cooksville, 53%) and Chrystia Freeland (University-Rosedale, 51%).

In the areas around Toronto with significant Ukrainian population, the Conservatives won in two ridings: Thornhill – Peter Kent (54% of the vote) and Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill – Leona Alleslev (45%).
